Celebrating Our Champions

The Lazers celebrate their tenth national title in May 2017.

OCC will honor its rich lacrosse heritage Saturday, October 7.

The festivities will begin at 11am with a ceremony recognizing the new name of the Lazer Stadium playing surface as “Chuck Wilbur Field.” Wilbur is the Men’s Lacrosse Head Coach who in May guided the Lazers to their 10th national championship in 12 years. In June OCC’s Board of Trustees voted to name the playing surface in his honor.

In Wilbur’s 16 seasons at OCC he has a 251-15 won/loss record. In addition, Wilbur has won 16 consecutive Mid-State Athletic Conference Championships, 13 consecutive Region III Championships, and coached the Lazers to the longest win streak in college lacrosse history at 107 games (March 30, 2010 to March 5, 2016). Wilbur was named the NJCAA Lacrosse Coaches Association National Coach of the Year in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2017.

Chuck Wilbur

Wilbur’s efforts both on and off the field have led to extraordinary success for his players: 23 have become professional lacrosse players; 50 have transferred to Division I colleges; 89 have transferred to Division II colleges; 89 have transferred to Division III colleges; and those that have transferred have won a combined 32 NCAA National Championships.

Wilbur is a 1995 graduate of Cicero-North Syracuse High School and a member of that school’s Hall of Fame.

At 11:15am the Men’s Lacrosse program will hold its annual Alumni Game on Chuck Wilbur Field at Lazer Stadium.

At 12:30 members of the 2017 National Championship team will receive their championship rings. The ring ceremony will be followed with a barbecue.

The final event of the day is the annual Women’s Lacrosse Alumni Game. It is scheduled to begin at 2:15.
