Casey Rochette is ready to transfer to a private college in one of the nation’s biggest cities. OCC helped prepare her for the opportunity. “In high school I was a good student but not a great student. OCC was the perfect place for me to come to.”

Rochette earned a 3.6 grade point average her first semester on campus and thought college was going to be easy. She was inducted into honor society Phi Theta Kappa (PTK). Everything seemed to be perfect. “My second semester I didn’t do as well. My PTK membership was threatened. It was a wake-up call.”

She made the decision to work her hardest and get involved in as many activities on campus as possible. In the fall 2016 semester she earned a perfect 4.0 GPA. “Going through the whole process was very eye opening. I knew if I wanted to get into a bigger school I needed to participate and make the most of every opportunity.” Rochette’s improvement and involvement resulted in her being named an officer in PTK. She is the organization’s Vice President for Fellowship.

Rochette will earn her degree in May. She’s proud of the decision she made to come to OCC two years ago. “I made the right choice. I wasn’t ready right out to high school to leave home and be independent. I am now. Now I know I can be successful in college and I can take care of myself. OCC changed me as a person entirely. This is a good place to be transitioning and trying new things.”

Her next stop is Boston University’s College of Communication where she will major in Journalism. “I love everything about Boston… the business, the architecture in the city. There’s always something to learn there.”
