Onondaga Community College has been named one of “The 10 Best Green Schools in America 2018.” The designation comes from The Knowledge Review. You can view the latest issue of their publication here. The section highlighting OCC is on page 34.
The College was singled out for its efforts to use green principles in campus infrastructure to engage students. Examples included the redesigned West Quad which was demolished and rebuilt in 2015. The quad was designed to slope to one side where rain gardens would capture storm water runoff. The Knowledge Review also singled out the solar array on the roof of the Whitney Applied Technology Center which is linked to sustainability-related curriculum in the Architectural Technology program.
Other highlights included honor society Phi Theta Kappa’s “The Truth About Recycling” event, a lecture with environmental activist Lois Gibbs and Nursing students service-learning trip to Guatemala.
