Keeping track of all the important dates in a semester can be hard while you’re trying to be a full-time student. To make it easier, we compiled a list of important and critical dates below.

Important Note: This list of important dates applies to full semester classes that aren’t part of the Weekend College. Classes with half semester run times and Weekend College classes have different important dates. You can view those dates on our Academic Calendar.
Friday, August 31st, 2018 – Last Day to Add a Class (At Student Central)
This is the last day to add a class to your schedule for the Fall 2018 semester in person. We’d encourage you to stop into the Advising Center in the Gordon Student Center if you have questions or reach out at 315-498-2904 by 4 p.m. on August 31st.
Sunday, September 2nd, 2018 – Last Day to Add a Class (Online)
This is the last day to add a class to your schedule for the Fall 2018 semester. If you’re interested in registering for a class you can do so on webadvisor.
Monday, September 3rd, 2018 – Labor Day (No Classes)
Classes have just started, but you’ve already got a Monday off from class. Labor Day is a National Holiday so all classes are off for this day. If you’re into doing something fun join us for a Syracuse Chiefs game at noon. Find more details on the Chiefs Game on the Welcome Onondaga website.
Tuesday, September 4th, 2018 – Last Day to Enroll in a Payment Plan
It’s also the last day to enroll in an affordable payment plan for your tuition for the semester. Make sure you login to webadvisor and sign-up for the Nelnet payment plan before then. If you need assistance enrolling, reach out to Nelnet at 800-609-8056.
Sunday, September 16th, 2018 – Last Day to Drop a Class
This is the last day to drop a class from your schedule without being penalized with a withdrawal notation on your record. To drop a class after September 5th, you’ll need to call 315-498-2000 or stop into Student Central in the Gordon Student Center.
Before you drop, make sure that doing so will not put you in academic or financial jeopardy. Reach out to us at 315-498-2000 or firstname.lastname@example.org to check and see how dropping a class might affect you.
Wednesday, September 19th, 2018 – Advisor Assignment
If you haven’t already, log in to Lazer Success to check and see who your assigned advisor is and how to meet with them. Meet with your advisor ASAP so you can get ready for your spring semester and for your time at OCC as a whole.
Monday, October 1st, 2018 – 2019-2020 FAFSA Opens for Applications
We’re pretty sure you’re not thinking about the 2019-2020 school year at this point. But this is the day when the FAFSA for that year opens. While you don’t need to rush to fill out the application, it’s a good idea to start making sure you have everything ready to fill it out so you can do so ASAP if you plan on being a student.
Wednesday, October 17th, 2018 – Registration for Spring Begins for Current Students
Registration for the Spring 2019 semester starts on October 17th. While your exact registration date may vary, it’s a good idea to meet with your advisor prior to this date in order to be ready to hit the register button once your classes open. Once, you’ve met with an advisor, you can visit our enrollment lab for assistance with the registration process.
It’s also a good idea to plan out your finances prior to registering for the next semester. Our Community Care Hub can assist you with your long-term financial planning if you are in need of assistance figuring it all out.
Monday, November 19th, 2018 – Last Day to Withdraw from a Class
This is your last possible chance to withdraw from a course. After September 16th, you will receive a W on your transcript and you will be responsible for full tuition. However, you still have the opportunity to withdraw from a course until this time. If you have any questions about withdrawing from a class, contact us at 315-498-2000 or email@example.com.
Wednesday, November 21st – Friday November 23rd, 2018 – Thanksgiving Break
It’s your first break since Labor Day! Enjoy it with your family and friends. Rest up and be ready to return for the final weeks of classes and your final examinations.
Friday, December 14th, 2018 – Last Day of Classes
It’s important to be ready for finals by the time the Last Day of Classes rolls around. They will come quicker than you think!
Monday, December 17th – Friday December 21st, 2018 – Final Exams
A Note About Tuition Refunds
If you are thinking of dropping your courses and discontinuing your studies at OCC, the timing of that decision will determine what percentage of your tuition will be refunded. Below are a list of dates and how much of your tuition will be refunded if you drop your courses and deregister.
- Sunday, September 2nd, 2018 – Last Day to Receive a 75% Refund in tuition
- Sunday, September 9th, 2018 – Last Day to Receive a 50% Refund in tuition
- Sunday, September 16th, 2018 – Last Day to Receive a 25% Refund in Tuition
