Helping Young Women Develop Success

8th Grade Girl Scouts from the City of Syracuse enjoy a day on the OCC campus as part of the “College Life Program.”

OCC welcomed more than 100 Girl Scouts to campus May 18 as part of the first-ever “College Life Program.” “Our goal was to help them develop the tools they need as young women to be successful in life and in college,” said Dana Acee, event organizer and Director of Student Recruitment.

The Girl Scouts, who were all 8th graders from the City of Syracuse, spent their day participating in fun and meaningful activities including:

  • “Own Your Future: Preparing for College” workshop presented by OCC’s Jeanine Eckenrode and Sherrie Asbie-White.
  • “Girl Power!: Tips for Success in School, College and Beyond” workshop presented by OCC’s Dr. Julie White.
  • Visions Board creation led by OCC’s Meredith Cantor-Feller.

During lunch Girl Scouts heard words of inspiration from Sharon Owens, Deputy Mayor of the City of Syracuse.

The College Life Program was a presentation of OCC in partnership with the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways.
