There’s nothing quite like commencement at Onondaga Community College. Students earning their degrees range in age from 18 to, in some years, students in their 60’s or 70’s. Each student’s story is unique. There are traditional-aged students, students getting their degrees a little later because “life happened” and students who are making a career change.

Each year at commencement the upper walkway of the SRC Arena is lined with a series of eye-catching, colorful posters which highlight the stories of 15 graduating students. The student stories come from all corners of the campus and represent all walks of life. Despite their diverse backgrounds they all share the common goal of striving to better themselves through education.

The photographs for the posters are shot during the spring semester by photographer Chuck Wainwright. Once all of the photographs are gathered OCC Graphics Coordinator Marianne Florack designs the posters.

The goal with each of the photographs is to show the student in an environment related to his or her academic major. The photo shoots are always fun! Below is a brief video of a shoot Wainwright did with Music major and Vocalist Brittany Montpetit. The shoot was done in the Recital Hall of Academic II where Montpetit was on-stage singing.

Below is a slideshow of all of the the student photographs. Congratulations to OCC’s Class of 2016!
