Devlen Williams is a national champion! The sophomore finished first in the long jump competition at the NJCAA National Championships May 7 in Holyoke, Massachusetts. “It was such a great feeling. I remember the moment I realized I had won. I just grabbed the person next to me and lifted him up. I don’t even know if he was a teammate!”
Williams is a member of OCC’s first ever Men’s Outdoor Track and Field team. The Lazers did will in the nationals finishing 9th overall. Williams completed a total of six long jumps. His personal best that day was 22 feet, 10 inches.
Williams is no stranger to competing at the highest level. During his senior year at Corcoran he made it to the New York State Championships. Since coming to OCC he’s added more than a foot to his long jump distances thanks in large part to what he’s learned in the Physical Education and Exercise Science Studies major. “Now I know what to eat, how to take care of my body and the best way to lift weights and maximize my work out. “
Williams will graduate in December 2016. He plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree and become an athletic trainer. Congratulations Devlen!
