PSLA at Fowler Students Visit OCC

 

Freshmen enrolled in the Public Service Leadership Academy (PSLA) at Fowler are spending a day on the OCC campus, taking part in activities aimed at making them better students and citizens. PSLA at Fowler is a school of choice bringing together students from across the Syracuse City School District. Scheduled events at OCC September 9, 10 and 11 help students get to know each other, learn about decision making, work on team building, conflict management, life skills and etiquette.

PSLA @ Fowler consists of four academies with a total of 11 career pathways. Opportunities within each academy includes mentorships, internships and job shadowing. Students can also earn OCC credits while at PSLA. The four academies include:

  • First Responder Academy: Law enforcement, fire rescue, emergency technician and forensic science.
  • Homeland Security Academy: Computer forensics, cybersecurity, geospatial intelligence.
  • Military Science Academy: Navy ROTC, emergency preparedness.
  • Entrepreneurial Academy: Cosmetology/barbering, electrical trades.
