AmeriCU’s continuing commitment to the OCC campus community paid off in a big way for one lucky student. When it opened its financial center in OCC’s Whitney Applied Technology Center at the start of the fall 2013 semester AmeriCU created an OCC specific Facebook page. When the page achieved 1,000 “likes” a randomly selected student would win $1,000.

One year later AmeriCU’s Facebook page crossed the 1,000 “likes” threshold and the winning student was selected.  Mac Morgan, a sophomore from Livermore in northern California, was thrilled to be the big winner. “I was super excited! I have bills, my car needs to be fixed, and this will help with rent and food too.” Morgan is a sophomore Physical Education major who plays on the national champion men’s lacrosse team, serves as a student ambassador giving campus tours and works as an usher at the SRC Arena and Events Center. After graduating in May 2015 he hopes to transfer to a four-year college and keep playing lacrosse.

Morgan’s good fortune is the latest example of AmeriCU’s dedication to OCC. AmeriCU has established a Community Scholars scholarship, helping to ensure that more students, regardless of socio-economic status, are able to attain a college degree and the opportunities one affords. AmeriCU has also educated students about financial literacy and provided students with internships which have turned into jobs.
